Adam was able to sleep comfortably through most of the day yesterday, so we spent it renewing our spirits. We went to the church meeting here at the hospital and enjoyed the testimoies that were shared. We spent some time in the meditation room, and visiting with friends old and new. I was able to hold Adam again for a little while. Later in the evening we found him awake, bathed, and alert. The nurse helped him sit up, for he is wobbly. He reached for toys, all of them. He spinned the wheels and held the toys with both hands. His nose was itchy and he rubbed it. He recognized Lucy's picture taped to the foot of his bed and pointed. He also recognized a family picture. I felt tears of joy to watch him do these things. He slept well through the night, and so did we.

Today Adam is still working a little hard to breathe. An ENT will come to look at him and maybe take a look at the inside of his trachea. The EEG showed no signs of seizure activity. He shows subtle signs of stress from being extubated from the ventilator. He's a little disorganized with his movements, which comes from having a brain injury, and the brain trying to rewire itself. These things will repair themselves with time and therapy.

Emily passed her driving tests and will get her license this week. Way to go, Emily! The other children are staying with Jenny and David in Vernal, and seem to be having a terrific time. The doctors and nurses here are great, and very competent. The nurses work 12 hour shifts and stay with the same patient the whole time. It's a good place to be when you need to be here.
