The Summer started with a trip to Washington DC for George, Susan and Tom. Tom won the trip as a winner at the Regional Spelling Bee in Driggs. What a great opportunity! Tom didn't make it to the top 50 semifinalists, but he was able to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and see an amazing part of the country. The hotel was within a 10 minute walking distance to the Smithsonian and the White House. We also spent some time with George's nephew and his wife while we were there. Esther took us to see Mt Vernon, and we took the National Treasure 2 tour. Nathan and Esther also took us to the Washington DC temple.
Tom played baseball. His team won first place in the tournament and Tom was given the game ball. He improved so much during the season. At the last game he hit one home run, a triple, and caught two pop fly balls. All of the boys played well and the coaches were exceptional.

Emily got her drivers license. It is nice to have another driver in the family.
Brennen learned to ride his bike! he and Tom rode their bikes in the Driggs Cenntennial Celebration Parade.
Katelyn took flute lessons and ended with a recital. She played a trio with the teacher and another flute student. Good job Kate!
The Steven Bates Family Reunion was in August this year. Oh how the children love to see the cousins! I think it is great that our children have so many cousins and chance to become friends. We went hiking and huckleberry picking, swam in the creek, and spent a day in Yellowstone Park.
We planted a garden this year. It is more weeds than garden, but we did get to pick peas, beans, a few raspberries, and cabbage!
